Water management
The Netherlands is a delta area with great rivers where people have had to defend themselves against high waters for centuries. The problems of high tides are still with us. To solve these problems we look more and more to measures, which provide space for water instead of purely technical solutions. The Dutch Government Service for Land and Water Management (DLG) knows a great deal about all facets of water required for good rural development at home and abroad. DLG is keen on bringing its expertise and experience to bear on these challenging problems, translating policy objectives into concrete projects.
International
DLG is involved in a number of new and future EU Member States in the incorporation of the Water Framework Directive into national policy-making. DLG gives advice on harmonizing policy at inter-regional and national level. DLG is also active in countries outside the EU in the field of integrated water resources management in river basins. Projects of this sort have been carried out in Hungary, Romania, Honduras and Iran, among others.
